Olympic Torch Visits Istochnik Private School

The city of Ulyanovsk hosted Russia's Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Torch Relay on 26 December.

Thousands of people eye-witnessed the Olympic flame circling the central streets, as well as soaring above Ulyanovsk on AN-124-100 aircraft.

Honored and respected residents of the city were selected to carry the torch. The AN-124-100 Captain Vladimir Syukrev, an honored transport industry worker and distinguished airman of Russia, became a torchbearer representing Volga-Dnepr Airlines. After the flight above Ulyanovsk, he returned to the company headquarters to do a lap of honor and then continued his “torch relay” to Istochnik school.

Students were delighted to meet the torchbearer and asked questions about airplanes, Olympic games and why he was given the honor of carrying the flame. At the end, children presented the guest with their drawings and took group photos to remember the world’s major sporting event of 2014 – Sochi Olympic Games.
