DidacticsInterest to studying is only possible
with inspiration resulting from success… …
The school implements educational standards: statutory standard of general education (for children with normal development for their age) and additional educational activities (for children below or above their age development standard), through implementation of study under Didactical System of Developmental Education by L.V. Zankov..
Zankov’s System is special in that it naturally and harmonically combines two worlds in a lesson: first is real world which is filled with accurate information and scientific facts bringing precious knowledge about life; and second is magical world full of anticipations of a wonder, offering exciting encounters of unusual things in usual environment, with magic in prose and fairytale in reality.
Child finds oneself being a part of a huge holistic world. And teacher is seen not just as mentor but as a companion who travels the path of gaining knowledge about the world and its concepts together with young thinkers, but at a slightly different level, encouraging their creativity, curiosity and flashes of inspiration.
Early school is age the most sensitive and favorable time for goal-oriented shaping of a child’s personality, development of intellectual and creative abilities and for the maturing of personal values and attitudes. Lack of creativity at early school age becomes a hindrance at an older age when child needs to be able to make own decisions and apply own intellectual abilities in extraordinary situations.
In conventional education, goals being pursued are: reproductive knowledge, understanding and reproduction at a non-creative use level. Academic I.P. Pavlov used to call such a situation “sleep with eyes open”. Reproductive education mainly relies on memory, it is far from creativity and hardly encourages development of a child’s personality and creative abilities since, under this model of education, only left brain hemisphere alone is busy which leads to a situation where child lacks motivation to study and, hence, there is no self-development.
Thus, in order to bring up a knowledgeable and creative person, developmental education is required where child is a self-valuable party in learning activities and where students acquire generalized intellectual abilities:
- To analyze situations and make conclusions;
- To see different functions of one and the same object;
- To find relations of an object with other objects;
- To see significant attributes and filter out distracting ones;
- To compare and classify;
- To summarize observed phenomena and project known ways and methods to other environments.
Developmental Education System by L.V. Zankov meets the above criteria.
Education system by Leonid Vladimirovich Zankov adopted by the Government is based on new didactics. Its goal is to ensure maximum effectiveness of education in terms of overall development of a school student. Study process occurs in friendly environment of cooperation between teacher and student.
From biblical parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we know that one should not “hide the talent in the ground”. Teacher’s task is to help each child find abilities in him or herself, unfold and develop those abilities, provide children with various methods for learning more about the exciting wonderful world where daily routine is nothing compared to the joys it brings: revelation of wonder of the Great Beauty which only reveals itself to the persistent and hardworking. The more talented a child is, the more is the desire for knowledge and the greater are uncovered secrets previously unknown.
Education objective: overall development of students which is understood as development of their mind and will as a solid foundation for effective internalization of knowledge, skills and abilities.
Content of education: enriched and enabling diversity of student activities. Rich content is achieved though inclusion of such disciplines in curriculum as: natural history, geography, story, philosophy and foreign language. Content of conventional subjects commonly taught at schools – the Russian language and reading, mathematics è labor training – is also enriched. Much importance is attached to obtaining knowledge by students through self-study.
Didactic principles: training at a higher difficulty level, leading role of theoretical knowledge, accelerated study of Programme material, understanding by students of the process of gaining knowledge, systematic work to ensure overall development of all students, irrespective of their study performance.
Methodic system features: diversity, process-based, conflict resolution, multi-option.
Another feature of L.V. Zankov’s Didactic System is stringent requirement for teacher to maintain kind, friendly and trust-based relationships between the teacher and students which are filled with positive emotions.
